I can't believe it has been March 6th. since I last posted. This session is winding down, and I have discovered a few things.....My favorite has to be how to use pintrist. I am finding all sorts of things I can use in my personal life and work related issues. Programing has been an ongoing issue since our move to our new facility. With ideas and suggestions I find through pintrist and Scoop it, I can introduce new ideas to draw our patrons in. I
find myself pinning and scooping for my patrons as well. I also am using ideas to keep my grandchildren occupied at home. I was surprised to discover for some reason, I am more comfortable with face book postings to promote our Library activities since starting this assignment. Although finding time to complete these assignments was a challenge, I am happy I was able to "Get it done". I guess at my stage in life, complete change is not expected. I still procrastinate things I'm not comfortable with, but I am a bit more willing to be open to social media challenges.

Just finished listening to CBC Radio Q's debate on the Future of Libraries. Very interesting. Although the focus was on the New York Public library, and the purging of mulitple volumes to accomodate computers and perhaps a cafe, the direction of our Library systems is comparable. I feel our facilities will fall by the wayside if we do not offer what our patrons want. A welcoming environment where fun and a little noise is allowed will encourage today's children to become our future adult patrons who enjoy our environment and bring their children. Such is the snowball effect. And who can say coffee and books do not go together? As far as making space, a Provincial collection such as ours allows sharing of resources in a positive way. I believe we are going in the right direction.

What a day !!!! 20 seniors for our breakfast program yeahhhh!! An official introduction of our new Adaptive Workstation to our community. Crotchet instruction, Special guests all around.... Library Headquarters staff, Library Board members, Rural Community Mayor and Councillor, seniors and volunteers. What more could we ask for. Now we extend an invitation to all who missed today, to come in and try our new adaptive workstation unit. We are so excited to introduce the capabilities of this unit to our entire patron population.

I'm falling behind...I have yet to complete last weeks assignment and this one's waiting for me, I assume, as I have not even looked yet. As this is my evening shift, perhaps it will be slow and I can catch up. This is not how it is supposed to be. I should be wishing for multiple patrons, not a few, so I can play on the computer.

Just finished Thing #8, #9, and #10 of this weeks assignments. Found it very interesting, although a bit confusing. I had used this quite some time ago, but had not repeated it enough to be comfortable with it. Again, like all the other "learning" items we are doing, finding the time to do them on a daily basis will be my biggest challenge.

We had a wonderful program at our facility this am. 23 seniors braved the cold to attend our breakfast. This is a new monthly progam that seems to be well received. I do believe social media promotion contributed in part to the success of our efforts. Some of our attendees are quite savy with their computer skills. I still can't decide which of the end of the age scale I prefer, preschoolers or seniors.
